In 2019, the inaugural Fireside 500, a boat race using stock outboards on Grand Lake, was brought to you by Top O’ Michigan Outboard Racing Club (TOMORC).

And now, they’re bringing it back!

Just shy of 9 miles round trip, 4 laps, 6-7 must make buoys, and some REAL rough water on the SW side of Grand Island.

According to Fireside Inn:

The Fireside Inn is about 18 miles north of Alpena. Your last miles before arriving at the resort will take you through winding roads surrounded by dense forests of pine, birch and balsam, giving hints of the joy to come. The clear sky, 30+ mile shoreline and 19 islands of Grand Lake (the lake is 5,600+ acres) provide an endless variety of scenery for you to enjoy.

The waters of Grand Lake and wooded shoreline offer Perch, Rock Bass, Small-Mouth Bass, Walleyes and Northern Pike that are throughout the lake. Panfish are usually easy to catch and plentiful (when they’re biting, as they usually are) while the bigger fish will challenge even the most experienced fishermen. Catching nice Walleyes is usually not too difficult, while bass and pike reward the persevering.

The best time for Small-Mouth Bass is late June into early July, or late September into early October. Walleye fishing is good from June through September. Perch, Rock Bass and Sunfish bite almost anytime throughout the summer and fall.
