Every year we get to gorge ourselves on jelly-filled paczki’s (pronounced ‘poonch-keys’) on Fat Tuesday.
Our favorite place for paczki’s is New Palace Bakery in Hamtramck.
There are numerous bakeries offering paczki’s and festivities going on in Hamtramck and Detroit on Fat Tuesday. Yes, you will have to wait in line wherever you go but trust us, it’ll be worth it, Kemosabe.
Polish Muslims will be playing @ Planet Ant (2320 Caniff) from 10:30AM-12:30PM. Afterwards, they’ll head to Whisky in A Jar (2741 Yemans) and the big tent from 2:30pm-5pm.
The adjacent Ghost Light Bar (2314 Caniff) opens at 9am.
Small’s Bar (10339 Conant St) for their ‘Packzi Bombs‘. They open at 10am and they’ll have FREE live music 4pm-9pm.
And you know what, kreytn, you know what you should really do if you’re down there all day? Have a delicious lunch or dinner at Polish Village Cafe (2990 Yemans St, Hamtracmk).
Polish Village Cafe is CASH-ONLY.
Try the delicious home-made creamy dill pickle soup, kilebasa, pierogis, potato pancakes, stuffed cabbage and dark Polish beer.
You will also definitely want to check out the Polish Sea League bar and also Krakus Polish Restaurant!
