That’s right, folks!
Alex Delvehccio played for the Detroit Red Wings for 24 seasons (1950-1973) and helped the Wings win the Stanley Cup 3 times (1952, 54, 55).
Delvecchio holds NHL records for seasons played and games played in a career spent with only one team; 2nd all-time in games played in a Red Wings uniform (Gordie Howe).
At the time of his retirement, he was second in NHL history in games played, assists and points.
Immediately after retiring in 1973, Delvecchio was named head coach of the Red Wings and was also named the team’s general manager in 1974, serving in both roles until 1977.
Delvecchio was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1977, and in 2017 was named one of the “100 Greatest NHL Players” in history.
