Preservation Detroit presents:

The Detroit Boat Club Crew and the Architectural Legacy of the Belle Isle Boathouse

Stephen Malbouef, Architect & historian

Stephen Malbouef merges his expertise as an architectural designer and historian with his passion for rowing in his research on the Detroit Boat Club Crew, one of North America’s oldest rowing organizations. His detailed architectural analysis of the Belle Isle Boathouse was pivotal in demonstrating the building’s potential to be restored.

Join Malbouef as he traces the history of competitive rowing on the Detroit River and tells the story of the birth of the Detroit Boat Club Crew. He will describe the architectural significance of the Belle Isle Boathouse through its design and construction, while making a compelling case for its preservation based on both its historical importance and structural integrity.
