Kayaker Steve Lutsch snapped a shot of fellow kayak enthusiast Stacy Adam getting up close and personal with a Great Lakes freighter and the image is stunning.
Lutsch took the photo in 2015 but only shared it with CBC Windsor this week.
He said he snapped the photo “to put into perspective” just how big freighters that traverse the Great Lakes and Detroit River really are.
Lutsch took the photo in the Detroit River near Fighting Island in LaSalle, Ont., after a 50-kilometre paddle from Peche Island at the eastern mouth of the Detroit River.
The freighter Emilie was anchored at the time of the photo. Lutsch estimates the freighter was 245 metres, or 800 feet, in length.
