Every year, the Belleville Lake Sandbar has hundreds of boats for the annual Belleville Lake Sandbar Boat Party.
The party is held in honor of the nearby Willow Run Airshow (aka: Thunder Over Michigan) where you can see a variety of cool vintage and modern ultra high-tech planes flying overhead.
They’re not having the Air Show this year but we have heard reports that they are still having the boat party.
The party takes place on the Sandbar near Van Buren Park Beach.
There is a strong undertow in this lake when the dam is opened. Exercise caution.
Belleville Lake is 1,270 acres and was created in 1925.
It’s 30-feet deep at its deepest point and you can find catfish, bass, walleye, yellow perch and carp here.
Two public boat launch ramps:
Loza Lane Ramp (100 Loza Lane, Belleville, MI)
Belleville West Ramp (5775 Rawsonville Road, Ypsilanti, MI)
Make sure you keep an eye out for Bad Dogs Hots Dogs boat from Dexter, Michigan, if you want to buy some food.
What is now Belleville Lake, used to be the old village of Rawsonville before it was purposely flooded to make the lake.
Rawsonville boomed from the 1820’s-1880’s. Then it was submerged underwater in 1925 when the area was flooded to create Belleville Lake. In 1823 it was called Snows Landing, then by 1838 it was Rawsonville.
The Civil War peaked in the 1860’s. There were sawmills, copper shops, stove factory, general store, 3 saloons, wagon maker, whorehouse, etc. Then the area gradually declined.
